Clara cogitates about living an adventure with Marina.

For all of Clarina's international fans, this is what's going to happen today. I can't wait!

After having the help of her niece in her divorce, now it’s time for Juliana (Vanessa Gerbelli) help Clara to find herself or, at least, find a way. The housewife, with tons of doubts, asks if a woman made a pass on her before and, very naturally, her aunt says yes.

Talking about the subject much more casually than Clara expected, Juliana asks if there’s a woman going after her niece, who comes clean. “It’s complicated. We are attracted to each other. As everybody says, we have chemistry”. They keep talking and the housewife continues. “If she was a man, I could make him my lover. I would be with both, as many women do. But how can you be married with a man and have a woman as your lover?”, questions Clara, without mentioning Marina.

Juliana, also thinking all of that is complex, keeps listening to Clara. “Actually, I think I would only go on in an adventure like this if I didn’t love my husband as much as I do. Or if I loved this woman more than I love my husband”. Wondering if Cadu’s wife will make a decision?

Marina: Say it. I’m waiting.
Clara: I thought about everything you said to me. About our situation. I can’t get your words out of my mind, Marina. Specially the last ones.
Marina: Clara, I can’t remember.
Clara: You will. First you said that for our own good we need to be apart.
Marina: And you’re gonna remember like this, sentence by sentence?
Clara: But I need you to see how it left a mark on me, Marina. Your words had gotten into my head, into my heart.
Marina: Oh, Clara, sometimes we say things that we regret 5 minutes later.
Clara: Sometimes but not always. If you had regrets you would have come after me, you could at least called me. To deny everything that you said.
Marina: You are right. Go on, I wanna hear everything.
Clara: I won’t torture myself anymore. Don’t want to torture you either. I want to forget the bad memories, get it? I need to tell you what stuck with me the most.
Marina: Wait a minute. You’re sure this is necessary. You won’t hurt me or yourself bringing back the memory of something I don’t want to remember and maybe neither do you. Are you sure?
Clara: I do. I’m not here closing a door between us, it’s just half open. But you said to me that for a matter of your survival you were firing me from your heart, didn’t you?
Marina: It’s just a sentence.
Clara: A sentence that makes a lot of sense. And it got me thinking. I don’t have the right to keep insisting with my presence here, don’t have the right to stop your survival.
Marina: No, Clara.
Clara: That’s why I came here, to say that I quit. To keep coming back here. I…I won’t come over here anymore.
Marina: No.
Clara: Yes! Yes! Because if we need to be apart, it needs to be radical. So we won’t suffer. Much. Marina, we need to grow apart for a while, understand? We need to..
Marina: No! No, I won’t survive! I won’t survive!
Clara: Maybe, neither do I. But we…we need to try. I’m almost bursting in my house. I’m looking at my husband in a different way like I don’t recognize him. Cadu would never forgive me for not being honest with him, loyal. Even worse, I…I would never forgive myself for this. And the suffering will be bigger. I’m sorry.
Marina: Clara…
Vanessa: What’s going on Marina? I’m here. Calm down.
Group hug, please? :’(

Clarina - CAP 41 - Em Familia (21/03)

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=235281546674270&set=vb.222809984588093&type=3&theater

Clara: Marina, I’m so sorry, I’m very late but I hurried up. Ivan is having some difficulties in science so I needed to help him. What face is that?

Marina: Nothing.

Clara: Did something happen?

Marina: Sit.

Clara: I know, you are mad at me because I’m late, you can tell me.

Marina: No Clara, sit, please.

Clara: I know what you’re going to say. You don’t want me to work here anymore, I will completely understand. Really. I’m sorry.

Marina: I’ts not that. I need to tell you how much I admire you. Since the first time I saw you I was fascinated. Simply because you are like this, so light weight, so sweet, so enlightened.

Clara: Thank you. But look…

Marina: Let me finish. We are different but I want you to know that because of these differences that I felt attracted to you, like a magnet.

Clara: Me too. I liked you since the beginning, since the first time I saw you.

Marina: Yes, but what happens when two magnets with the same polarities are close? They repel. That’s it Clara, everything that captivates me in you also drives me away. It’s like we are water and oil.

Clara: You think?

Marina: I do. And so do you. Clara, we are not children. Everything that we didn’t spoke verbally, we said all this time with gestures, with the eyes, with emotion, almost telepathy. You know what I’m talking about.

Clara: I know, I mean, I don’t know well. Because I don’t know how to deal with this, understand? To me, maybe it’s doubt, I don’t know, but it’s very confusing, I don’t know how to deal with this Marina, do you understand?

Marina: I understand, I understand. But it’s exactly because of that I’m talking for both of us. Because I can’t, I can’t no longer live with the presence of the absence of your love.

Clara: Are you talking about love?

Marina: Of course I’m talking about love? What do you think I’m talking about?

I can’t, I can’t. But, in order to survive, it’s best for us to be apart. I think that you should continue to work here because I really believe in your potential, you can still be here. But, in order for me to survive…how am I gonna say this?… I am…Let’s say…dismissing you from my heart

Em Família: Maneco prepares "who will it be?" for Clara

The possible romance that developed a bit fast between the couple Clarina gave the impression that Marina already won this game. But Marina's (Tainá Muller) fans might be surprised by the challenges she will face to win Clara's (Giovanna Antonelli) heart for good: apparently a little absent-minded, Cadu (Reynaldo Gianecchini) won't give up so easily on Clara - neither will she, by the way.

"Clara has a lot to lose", alerted the author Manoel Carlos, talking to the blog Quanto Drama.

With a cute husband and cute son, Clara will have second thoughts before jumping into a relationship with Marina. Until she decides, she will face a time of testing and embarrassing situations - that will fatally lead to the question "who she should be with?"

Their marriage will be in crisis soon, which could give an advantage to Marina. But the disease Cadu will develop will confuse even more the feelings. So far, heterosexual, Clara will have to deal not only with her homosexual desires but also with her marriage failing and raising her son, Ivan (Vitor Figueiredo) in the middle of all this.

Clara's choice, therefore, won't be easy and not simple as Clarina's fans may assume. For now, they have a huge support on social networks - where you can find instructions manuals about "how to seduce a straight woman" - and the repercussion is also international. The site AfterEllen, about lesbian/bi culture, published an article very flattering about the couple, classifying their scenes with words such as "brilliant" and "fantastic", emphasizing that Manoel Carlos was inspired by Daniela Mercury to create the characters.

On the telenovela official website a survey asks with whom Clara should be: Marina wins with no less than 78% of the votes. But it's important to remember that, for now, Cadu doesn't have a fan club and Team Marina is huge on the internet.

Marina and Clara are the first brazilian lesbian couple!please, we need help to support them!

Having a gay couple on television is something "new" in Brazil. Last year we had our first gay kiss in a soap opera and it only happened in the last chapter.
This year the author Manoel Carlos brought a lesbian couple for a starring role. Marina (Taina Muller) is a
successful photographer who falls in love with Clara (Giovanna Antonelli) a simple housewife. Clara is married to Cadu (Reynaldo Gianecchini). Gradually Marina is winning Clara's heart and affection.
A kiss? No, it didn't happen yet. And we're afraid that it's only gonna happen in the last chapter. So we need your help. A gay couple kissing on tv is something normal in many countries and we want it to happen in Brazil as well. Please, help us to support this wonderful couple and you'll fall in love with them.
There's a page on Facebook created to them and we're trying to translate everything into English as well, so it's gonna be accessible to many people! we're counting on you!

Giovanna Antonelli and Tainà Muller talk about their life and characters

Beautiful and excellent actresses, Giovanna Antonelli and Taina Müller are winning the public's heart. They're authentic and independent women and care about their freedom of choice. However, Clara's and Marina's strength goes beyond their sexual orientation. They both have a strong personality and a devasting charm.
Giovanna Antonelli (who plays Clara) faces life's challenges with a great good humor. Taíná Muller (Marina) who shares the most engaging scenes with Giovanna says that "being a woman is being creative, we have a huge energy of creation inside of us. I think that Marina knows what she wants and she goes after it with elegance. It's an aspect that should be an inspiration to all women. Just like her, i'm a contemporary woman and I run after my own happiness".
In Giovanna's opinion, the most admirable caracteristic in her character is her sincerity. "Clara is very honest and i admire that in a person". Besides her mother and grand mother, Natália do Vale, Glória Pires, Fernanda Montenegro, a escritora Janete Clair, Walderez de Barros, Julia Lemmertz, Fabíula Nascimento, Adriana Esteves and Patrícia Pillar are women who inspires Giovanna Antonelli.
On the other hand, Tainá says that her inspirations are: Hilda Hilst, Frida Kahlo, Patti Smith, Simone de Beauvoir and Nise da Silveira. They all show that women are not the weaker sex. http://gshow.globo.com/novelas/em-familia/extras/noticia/2014/03/par-romantico-na-trama-antonelli-e-muller-defendem-faces-da-mulher-moderna.html

Cadu and Clara have a fight because of Marina

From the very beginning Cadu (Reynaldo Gianecchini) gets impressed with the party that Marina (Tainá Muller) prepares to celebrate Clara's (Giovanna Antonelli) birthday. He doesn't feel confortable during the celebration and by the end of the party he asks Clara to leave with him. She refuses and gets impressed by Cadu's atitute. She tells him that he should go home before her because she's going to ask someone to take her home later. "why are you gonna ask someone to take you home? You should sleep here. I'm sure that there's a good place for you in here" says an angry Cadu.
Later, when Clara arrives home, Cadu is still mad at her. She remembers every detail of the party, which leaves her husband increasingly angry. "That's enough Clara. It's always, you, you, you and then Marina, Marina, Marina. What about me? Where is my place in all this afterall? What does Marina want with you? And what do you want Clara?"
Clara gets scared and says that he can't spoil her night just because he's jealous. Cadu ensures that it´s not about jealousy. "Now tell me something Clara: why does Marina pampers you so much? What does she want with all this? It's all clear to me now. You can't be so naive. Don´t you realize that she wants to..." Clara interrupts Cadu before he can finish his sentence and assures that the important is what she wants "We don't live on an island nor in a bubble. It's normal that other people look at me. Or do you think that since we got married no man looked at me with interest? Even your friends look at me if you wanna know. Just like women... or you're gonna say that they never looked at you like that? But it doesn't matter" Says Clara. http://gshow.globo.com/novelas/em-familia/vem-por-ai/noticia/2014/03/barraco-cadu-e-clara-brigam-por-causa-de-marina.html

Real life lesbian romance drives Brazil’s “Em Familia”

When an AE reader sent us a tip about Em Familia, I leapt to attention. A stunning Brazilian lesbian photographer seducing an unsatisfied wife? Yes. Yes, please.
Telenovelas are more known for high drama and heaving bosoms than queer visibility, but Brazilian audiences are clamoring for more girl y girl in Em Familia (In Family). While Em Familia isn’t the first telenovela to feature a lesbian couple, it is inciting a positive reaction among Brazilians- gay and non gay alike.
“They are exploring this subject in a cute and extremely beautiful atmosphere,” Brazilian reader Carla rhapsodized, “and believe me, I don’t watch telenovelas. But it is impossible not to watch and love every scene they have together!”
emfam1 Clara (played by Giovanna Antonelli) is an unsatisfied housewife married to the unemployed Cadu (Reynaldo Gianecchini). Together they have one son, Ivan, played by Vitor Figueiredo. When Clara meets Marina, a stunning and gifted female photographer (Taina Muller), her life changes forever. Marina’s work is mostly composed of artistic nude pictures of women, which is exactly what my work would focus on if I was a photographer. Living in LA, if you want a girl to take off her clothes, all you have to say is “photoshoot” and le panties drop. Vanity is a many splendored thing. All you need is vanity.
Marina’s go-to line is “nude photographs reveal a woman’s soul,” which is GENIUS, and eventually Marina convinces Clara to pose for her while Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die” plays in the background. Pure sex. Watching Marina photograph Clara spinning around giddily in silken gowns seriously made my morning. I am thoroughly delighted by these two. FANTASTIC.
emfam2 After bonding with Marina, Clara is appalled and aroused to discover Marina is a homosexualist. Cadu warns Clara of Marina’s predatory sapphic proclivities, but Clara is not so much worried as intrigued. Clara confides in her sister, Helena, about Marina. Awesomely, Helena doesn’t react with homophobia or shock, but instead discusses the situation in an open and enlightened fashion. For the first time, Clara can be honest about her feelings for Marina. At the end of the scene, Clara ignores a phone call from Marina, and Helena says, “Answer and tell her you are a happily married straight mother… or are you afraid of telling Marina that you’re not interested?” Clara simply responds, “I am afraid of telling her that I am interested.”
emfam3 How does Marina feel about Clara? Is Clara just a straight conquest, or is Marina developing real feelings for a married woman? In another scene, Marina admits to a friend that she’s falling for Clara. Now that both Clara and Marina have acknowledged their feelings to themselves and others, shiz is about to go down. Marina has invited Clara on a work trip to Angra dos Reis to photograph a house. A romantic retreat is just what these two need to get naughty. I’ve seen a couple clips of the two flirting and while I have no idea what they’re saying, I really want them to say it to me.
emfam4 One last note: Clara’s story isn’t entirely fiction. Manoel Carlos, the writer of Em Familia, said that Clara is inspired by Daniela Mercury, a famous Brazilian musician. Last year Daniela Mercury, a divorced mother, came out as queer with her girlfriend. Daniela is now married to that girlfriend, and they’ve even published a book about their romance.
I can’t wait to see how Clara and Marina’s story plays out on Em Familia. Special thanks to AE reader Carla, who brought this amazing story to our attention. Have any other AE readers been watching? What do you think of Carla and Marina’s romance? Have any of you read Mercury’s book?
